In an April 1871 edition of The Journal, the building known as “the band hall” was advertised for sale. In May 1873, Geo. C. Davison purchased the property with plans to raze it and erect a “substantial residence.” In 1880, Davison sold the property to J.B. Hoyt & Co. to be occupied by J.B. Childs, and it was undergoing “marked improvements” with “a rear addition, a large bay window on either side, handsome portico in front.” At the time it was being remodeled on the inside, also, with new paint applied by L.C. Jones. According to the paper, “It will be one of the most desirable residences in Philipsburg.”
