The Carlisle-Loraine House
The South Centre Street Tour
The Carlise-Loraine House was built in 1889 and later purchased by the late Walter Swoope, Jr. in 1975. It was in deplorable condition when Mr. Swoope purchased it, and he spent years restoring it to its former glory. A feature of the inside is a round shower in the main bathroom, with vertical tubes and horizontal bands that spray water all over, in addition to a huge shower head above. The windows are duplicates of the original ones, and the brick work was designed from photos of the home taken in the early 1900s. The house is now divided into apartments.
