The Lloyd House
The Front Street Tour
Across Front Street from the Moshannon Building is a two- story structure, formerly the Lloyd House, built in 1859. Later, it was purchased by a new owner and remodeled and renamed the Hotel Sheffer. In 1919, Louis Finberg tore down the Sheffer and erected the present building for a dry goods store. For more than 60 years, the building housed the McCrory 5&10. When the metal McCrory front was removed, Louis Finberg’s name was revealed in the brick facade. Extensive renovation was carried out by the late Walter Swoope, Jr. to provide retail space on the first floor and offices on the second floor. Windows on the sides that were bricked up for years were opened up during the restoration.
